Access to Degree Courses - Start your Educational Journey Towards a Degree
If you’ve spent some time away from education but are looking to get back into studying, then an Access to Degree course at Somerset College could be just the ticket.
All Access courses are equivalent to three A-levels, take one academic year to complete and allow direct progression onto degree level study within a related field. They’re designed to prepare you practically and academically for progression onto university studies, and are a fantastic way of equipping you with the skills and experience needed to make the next step in your educational journey.
Somerset College offers a range of Access courses that provide the foundations for university-level study in areas such as Midwifery, Podiatry, Nutrition, Psychology, Sociology, Journalism, Business and many more.
What do you cover on an Access Course?
Attending college just 2 days per week, you will study a range of units in your subject area and your work will be assessed on an ongoing basis. Some disciplines also involve examinations, giving you valuable experience for further study.
Who can do an Access course?
To be eligible for an Access course you must be aged 19 or over and hold GCSEs in English Language and Mathematics at grade C or above. If you don’t have the required GCSE grades, don’t panic. We can help you resolve this through additional study.
Financial Support is available
If you are 24 years of age or older, then in most cases you will be eligible to receive an advanced learning loan to pay your tuition fees. The application process is easy, your household income won’t be taken into account and if you go on to successfully complete a degree after studying an Access course then any outstanding loan amount will be written off.
*Individuals who are under 24 years old and do not already hold a Level 3 qualification will be exempt from these fees.
