'Takeover Evening' at The Castle Hotel

Taking the Quantock Restaurant to the Castle Hotel, Bow Bar and Grill.

The culmination of two years of hard work, recently saw ten of the Quantock Restaurant’s second year students undertake an end of year gourmet evening where they undertook a full ‘Takeover’ of the Castle Hotel’s, Bow Bar and Grill Restaurant in Taunton.

In Persuit of the Best

The Castle Bow Bar and Grill is part of the prestigious Castle Hotel which has developed a strong reputation for high quality dining experiences coupled with excellent front of house service. The fine dining restaurant has had a string of successful chefs at the helm including Gary Rhodes and Phil Vickery, with Liam Finnegan now heading up The Castle’s kitchens.

The Castle Hotel has a good working relationship with the Quantock Restaurant and this was the first time that they have permitted such a ‘takeover evening’, showing great confidence in the ability of Somerset College’s students to create and deliver a quality dining experience to match the same high expected standards.

As part of the ‘Takeover Evening’, which sold its entire table allocation well in advance, the students developed their own special 5-course menu, which they then prepared, cooked and served to the eager (and excited) guests. The menu itself was inspired by a Summer theme and included Pimms upon arrival, a choice of Canapés, Crab Ravioli, Passion Fruit Sorbet and a Duck Breast main meal which was followed by a Trio of Desserts and Petit Fours with Coffee.

The night was a huge success, enjoyed by all which allowed the brigade of students to showcase their abilities and sign off the academic year in style before moving onto the next stage of their culinary careers.
