Fine Art degree students have been busy again!
This time we are exhibiting a selection of paintings and prints in the college's Hot House (located inside the Conference Centre). The show, titled 'Core 2.5' is a continuing collection of work that includes a variety of painting styles, mixed media and a selection of photographic prints, some of which are from the successful end of year show, ‘Core'.
(For a chance to see some of the work from the Fine Art end of year show, ‘Core' please go to our blog on http://somersetcollegeexhibitions.vox.com/ as we can not show you the sculpture, installation and video works of art done by other artists on the course in the Hot House).
What has made this exhibition particularly exciting is that it has been pretty much a student run endeavour with a majority of the organising and hanging been done by the students through team work, although we would like to thank Jacquie Green and Sam McIntyre at the Hot House for their support. We hope to use this opportunity as a way of promoting ourselves as artists, receiving and generating feedback from an audience and selling work.
Look out for more exhibitions in the future.....
Core 2.5 will be on show until October 20th and all work is for sale. (Please see details in the gallery for more).
Don't worry; starting college can be very scary because it's a big change from school or from going back to education.
And don't worry about being on your own because you won', there will be lots of people in the same boat as you, and if you are confident and talk to them, be nice and friendly you are bound to make friends.
You could also join activities and groups at lunch time, volunteer to be a student ambassador or join the student union you will make friends where ever you go in college.
It was the same for me last year when I went to college but everyone is nice there so don't be shy.
Also, the teachers are brilliant and always there to help you.
I hope that this has helped you.
