University Centre Somerset students exhibit at New Designers 2017

Forover 20 years students from the University Centre Somerset studying Textiles & Surface Design and Fashion Design have the opportunity to take their final year projects to New Designers in London where they exhibit their work and gain valuable experience and industry contacts.

New Designers (Part 1) brings together over 175 of the best creative universities in the country and 3000 graduate designers and makers, and gives them a platform to exhibit their work. Students network and gain valuable industry links to kick start their career.

During their final years students work is judged by an internal University Centre Somerset panel and students are selected to attend the exhibition through the quality of their creations. This year a range of printed textiles and glitzy fashion items were selected to attend and the students had a busy time getting ready.

Hannah Lenthall, Technical Demonstrator at University Centre Somerset said: “The students work really hard throughout the year to create quality work that would appeal to the general public and industry. It's great that our students continually get to attend the exhibition and show their dedication and the quality of the teaching here”

In the past students attending this event have gained contacts and gone off to work for Arts for Life, Graduate Fashion Week and Rolls Royce. This year's students will be aiming even higher to gain work experience and internships across the industry.
