Why Somerset College is the Perfect Place for Degree-Level Study
The government’s cap on university numbers has been lifted, making it possible for the larger establishments to become even bigger and, some might argue, more impersonal.
As a result, some smaller university level providers may be tempted to merge – but Somerset College isn’t among them.
The College is currently partnered with The Open University and Plymouth University, allowing quality degrees to be offered to those looking for a more intimate learning environment.
Our lecturers pride themselves on developing personal relationships with students through one-to-one tutorials, enabling bespoke career paths to be forged.
Small Class Sizes for Easier Learning
Class sizes remain small and group discussions or debates are encouraged. Resources are plentiful with students able to withdraw 12 books at a time from the dedicated HE Study Centre. Degree students also have a Common Room located next to the Student Union office and good communication with the College management through the Student Reps.
Andy Howell, a lecturer on the media make-up degree programmes, recently said: “We stand out from our competition because of the way we deliver the course. We know our students and they all know us. Larger unis often have a more didactic way of teaching, but we’re more approachable and the atmosphere is relaxed.”
