If you have been out of education for a while and would like to gain access to a university level qualification such as a degree, an Access course may be the best way forward for you.
Access courses are equivalent to two A levels and give you access to university level courses. Additional GCSE Maths, English and Science classes are available and Level 2 numeracy and literacy sessions can also be arranged. For access to higher level courses in Health Studies and a career in health.
You will study a range of units in all of your subjects and your work will be assessed throughout the course. Successful completion of each unit will give you Access ‘Credits'. You need to accumulate at least 60 credits to be awarded full access certification. There will be exams in some of the subjects.
This course will give you a practical and academic grounding for a range of health related careers including: Midwifery, Podietry, Nurition, Diatetics and operating department practice
There are no formal entry requirements, however, it is important that you have developed skills in written English.
If you have not already achieved GCSE English at grade C it is usually possible to study this alongside your Access programme. It may be necessary in some cases for applicants to complete a short comprehension exercise to demonstrate their abiliities in written English.
