If you have been out of education for a while and would like to gain access to a university level qualification such as a degree, an Access course may be the best way forward for you.
Access courses are equivalent to two A levels and allow access to a university level course. Our Access courses are designed to fit around a busy family or work life. Additional GCSE Maths and English classes are available, Level 2 numeracy and literacy sessions can also be arranged.
This course will give you a practical and academic grounding for a nurse training course, although it can also be used as a route into teaching or health related careers. You will cover Human Biology, Health Psychology and The Sociology of Health.
You will study a range of units in all of your subjects and your work will be assessed throughout the course. Successful completion of each unit will give you Access ‘Credits'. You need to accumulate at least 60 credits to be awarded full access certification. There will be exams in some of the subjects.
There are no formal entry requirements, however, it is important that you have developed skills in written English.
If you have not already achieved GCSE English at grade C it is usually possible to study this alongside your Access programme. It may be necessary in some cases for applicants to complete a short comprehension exercise to demonstrate their abiliities in written English.
