Successful completion of this apprenticeship will provide students with an IMI Technical Certificate/Diploma, an NVQ Level 2 or 3 and integrated practical training and assessment for light vehicle trainees.
Generally a 2 year programme based upon day release. However, the programme may be modified according to your professional experiences.
Level 3 compulsory modules:
Remove and replace structural body panels
Repair structural body panels
Rectify vehicle misalignment
Refinish vehicles
Level 3 optional modules:
Create special paint effects
The individual Technical Certificate and NVQ may be studied independently.
Key Skills will feature as part of both apprenticeships.

The IMI course is assessed by online assessments, College-based assignments and short answer tests. The NVQ at Level 2 or 3 will be assessed by demonstration of practical competence in a variety of relevant tasks, a portfolio which will be up to a national standard plus responses to technical questions to measure your understanding of light vehicle maintenance and repair work.
Employment as a Motor Vehicle Body Repairer and/or Vehicle Refinishing Technician, trainee Service Receptionist/Engineer in vehicle body specialisms or a trainee Vehicle Body Accident Repair Insurance Estimator.
You could progress onto our Foundation Degree Engineering (Automotive).
College entrants will be 16 years of age and over and have at least 4 GCSEs at grade E or above plus a College interview and initial assessment.
You will need an employer to sponsor you. This process needs to start as soon as you feel you want to become a mechanic. Often the offer of an apprenticeship comes from work experience or voluntary work, so always be on the look-out for opportunities. We can also help you to find placements and can also transfer you to an apprenticeship from a full-time programme at any time.
