For those who may be interested in teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector. It is at Level 3 or 4 in the National Qualifications Framework and is an introductory qualification that can lead to higher level teaching qualifications at this college.
If you are interested in teaching/training in post-16 education, this introductory course will give you an opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge, imagination and attitudes you will need. It is suitable for those who work or want to work as teachers in the lifelong learning sector; technicians and support staff in further and adult education and training personnel in commerce, industry, the public sector, the uniformed services or HM Forces. You will cover: role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching; appropriate teaching and learning approaches in your specialist area; session planning skills; how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners and the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping.
Teaching and learning methods used will include classroom based group sessions, small group work, discussions, observations of micro-teaching, a variety of ILT resources and individual tutorials. Assessment of theory and practice assignments.
You should have a relevant vocational, professional or academic qualification in the subject you intend to teach and be willing to undertake personal study alongside this programme.
