The Advanced Diploma is equivalent to three and a half A Levels. You will develop an understanding of the importance of the built environment to the well-being and prosperity of those who use it. You will learn about the skills necessary to create, manage and maintain the built environment and the wide range of career pathways that it offers. You will undertake site visits and learn about the building of prestigious projects.
Learning will range from architecture and sustainability to what is involved in constructing a building.
The Principal Learning comprises seven units of study:
You will work on a practical industry based project giving you the opportunity to engage with real industry based scenarios. This will require you to demonstrate your planning, research, analysis and presentation skills.
In addition to the Principal Learning which will develop your understanding and knowledge of the subject you will take Functional Skills in Maths, English and IT at Level 2. You will also have the opportunity to develop skills such as creative thinking and team working within the Principal Learning.
An optional course will make up the rest of your Diploma. You may choose for example to study an AS subject or a health and safety programme or a course in thatching or cob block building. You will be provided with advice from our specialist staff on which additional course would be right for you and which reflects your interests.
Work Experience
You will be required to attend work experience for a minimum of 10 days. This will be related to work based activities and will allow you to apply and add to your knowledge enabling you to develop confidence and expertise.
Each unit of the Advanced Diploma is assessed through a single assignment which reflects the aim of each unit.
As part of the teaching programme you will go out on visits following the progress of builds or visiting iconic buildings such as City Hall, Lloyds and the Gherkin. Guest speakers will bring their experiences into the classroom and you will also visit trade shows.
