Description

This is a great course for those students who wish to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for a successful career in the Sports and Leisure industry.

The subjects you will study on this course will combine a total of 60 credits to include:

  • Fitness Testing and Training
  • Practical Sport
  • Anatomy and Physiology for Sport
  • Planning and Leading Sports Activities
  • Injury in Sport
  • Exercise and Fitness Instruction
  • Leading Outdoor and Adventurous Activities

(The units are subject to change).

You will be given the opportunity to lead groups and get experience of coaching as well as gaining additional qualifications.

As part of your course you will study Functional Skills. These will include the development of communication skills.

There are also additional NGB sports coaching qualifications offered throughout the course. You will have membership to Castle Leisure Centre (conditions apply) along with having access to a variety of activities.

Teaching and Assessment

You will be taught through a mixture of practical lessons with external visits, guest speakers and classroom lectures. You will be assessed by practical and written assignments, continuous assessment and presentations.

Career Opportunities

To develop your skills and knowledge further, you could progress on to our Extended Diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness).

Alternatively, you could seek employment in sports centres, fitness studios, leisure centres or youth work.

 

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade D or above to include English Language or another related Level 1 or 2 qualification.

In addition, learners must have a keen interest in sport and participate in activity on a regular basis.

Costs

Students will need to purchase a college Sports Kit and pay for any coaching awards taken and organised visits. There is also a compulsory residential trip which will be assessed. In addition an induction trip or activity will take place. A breakdown of costs will be issued upon acceptance.
