This is an exciting, unique and rewarding course aimed at students with a passion for photography and lens based imagery.
This course focuses on exploring and developing your creative skills across a range of traditional and digital photographic techniques. You will also have the opportunity to explore moving image.
During your first year you will be introduced to a range of the principles of design, ways of looking, thinking and expressing ideas visually. We will teach you skills of drawing, how to use colour with effect and how to work in 3D and how to use computers in application to creative idea development. You will learn how to research and develop your ideas creatively, how to visualise them, talk about them and write about them! This will be further supported by a visual lecture and study skills programme.
You will work using a variety of media and materials and use specialist technical equipment in our resource centres to get the very best out of your ideas.
The team are experts in their field and, with your personal tutor, will purposefully support and guide you through your first year. This, your first year experience, will help you feel confident of your chosen specialist study for year two but will also enable you to change to another art and design study if appropriate.
You will learn about the use of 35mm film and digital SLR cameras along with medium format film and experimental imagery. You will gain an understanding of darkroom/studio techniques and photo/media software along with studio lighting. Specialist areas of study during your first year will include photographic media, experimental imagery, location photography and digital storytelling.
In your second year you will begin to develop your chosen specialism and work on live briefs which link assignments with real experience.
