Who is this course for?

Electricians install, connect, test and maintain electrical systems for a variety of purposes, including climate control, security and communications. Although most electricians specialise in construction or maintenance, a growing number do both. Timetabled sessions will take place over two and half days per week for the academic year.

The City & Guilds is a technical certificate which will give you the underpinning knowledge required to develop a wide range of skills including installation, commissioning and maintenance.

To be a qualified tradesperson you will need to complete the NVQ Level 3 in your chosen trade. The NVQ is a work-oriented qualification which requires you to build a portfolio of evidence; therefore, you should be suitably employed in a related role.

If you are under 23 years and have relevant employment, you could follow the apprenticeship route - please see page 95.
