This course will provide you with an insight into the fields of electronics, computing, telecommunications and design and technology. The focus of this course is new technology and development.
Your studies are directly relevant to the changing needs of employees and employers and will provide you with a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes, which are essential for career development.
You will cover the following modules:
• Electrical, electronic and mechanical principles
• Business systems
• Communications
• Mathematics for technicians
• Science
There will also be a wide range of specialist modules to choose from including:
• Microelectronics
• Website design
• Engineering design
• Mechanical technology
• Computer Aided Design (CAD)
• Engineering materials
• Introduction to software development
• Further mathematics for technicians
• Electronic CAD and analysis
You will be taught through computer-based projects, case studies, tutorials and classroom sessions. Assessment will be through a mixture of assignments and examinations.
Further study onto a Foundation Degree in Engineering (Design and Manufacture) or Engineering (Electronic Systems) here at Somerset College with an additional one year top-up to an Honours Degree at the University of Plymouth as an option.
Alternatively you could find employment in aeronautical engineering, communications engineering, design technology and computing or design and manufacture.
Four GCSEs at grade A* to C, including Maths, Science (Physics) and English Language, or a First Diploma or an intermediate GNVQ in a related subject area
