Public Services cover a wide range of occupations including the Armed Forces, Police, Fire Service, Probation Service, Ambulance Services and Customs & Excise.
To gain this qualification you will need to pass 180 credits in total.

As well as attending classes and workshops you will be expected to participate in practical exercises, visit a range of public service organisations and learn from guest speakers. In addition you will participate in the Cadet Academy that runs during the course.
The programme has been designed to prepare students for entry tests carried out by a range of public services.
All units will offer a mixture of assessment methods, including presentations, written case studies, observation, practicals and assignments. Progress will be monitored on a continual basis with your personal tutor.
Students could progress onto a variety of Foundation Degree courses at Somerset College or join one of the Public Services including the Armed Services, Fire Brigade or Police, subject to interview process.
5 GCSEs at grade C or above, to include English or Level 2 Diploma with Merit / Distinction profile in a related subject.
Applicants with different qualifications and experience or relevant employment/sporting background may also be considered.
Students will need to purchase college Public Services Kit and pay for any coaching awards taken and organised visits. There is also a compulsory residential trip which will be assessed. In addition an induction trip or activity will take place. A breakdown of costs will be sent upon acceptance.
