This is a great course for students who wish to progress into a career in the sports industry or onto a higher level course.
To gain this qualification you will need to pass 180 credits. Units that you will study will include:
Principles of Anatomy and Physiology of Sport; The Physiology of Fitness; Assessing Risk in Sport; Fitness, Training and Programming; Sports Coaching; Sports Development; Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise; Practical Team Sport; Individual Team Sport; Psychology for Sports Performance; Sports Nutrition; Physical Education and the Care of Children and Young People; Rules and Regulations and Officiating Sport; Outdoor and Adventurous Activities; Leadership in Sport; Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise; Work Experience in Sport; Exercise for Specific Groups; Analysis of Sports Performance; Functional Skills. There are also additional NGB sports coaching qualifications offered throughout the course. You will also have free membership to Castle Leisure Centre (conditions apply) along with having access to a variety of activities.
You will be taught through a mixture of practical lessons, external visits, guest speakers, classroom lectures and work experience. You will be assessed by practical and written assignments and continuous assessment.
You will be expected to participate in regular sporting fixtures, enrichment and be part of the Leadership Academy.
To develop your skills and knowledge further you could progress onto our Foundation Degree in Sports and Exercise Rehabilitation or Sports Management and Development or another degree course.
Alternatively, you could seek employment in Coaching, Sports Development, Physical Training, Sports Facility Management, Health Promotion or in HM Forces.
5 GCSEs grade A* to C, including Maths and English. We will also accept a First Diploma at Merit / Distinction profile or at 60 credits.
Students will need to purchase College sports kit and pay for any coaching awards taken and organised visits. There is also a compulsory residential trip which will be assessed. In addition an induction trip and activity will take place. A breakdown of costs will be issued upon acceptance.
