This is an exciting, challenging and rewarding course for those with a passion for performing arts. It will offer you the opportunity to explore your potential and develop skills that will be important to your future work.
This course is a 2 year level 3 full time programme which is equivalent to 3 ‘A’ Levels. On this course you will cover 5 core units and 12 specialist units. These will include: Acting ,Singing, Dancing, Musical Theatre, Directing and Scriptwriting.
You will be trained by highly experience professional staff who have worked in the performing arts industry in theatre, film, pop and television.
You will take part is a variety of performances as part of the Operating Theatre Company. These will take place in our Echo Theatre, local professional theatres and also outdoor public events. There are opportunities with in the structure of the course to work with individual outside agencies and internal promotional campaigns, from role play to being made up for photo shoot.
During the course both year groups will work in collaboration on a range of projects ,you will also work with students from other courses within the arts and design area, with close links to the production arts course.
You will have the opportunity to go on theatre trips to local, regional and west end theatres. These include plays, experimental theatre, dance and musicals. You will able to take part in workshops run by proffessionals.
You will be supported both academically and pastorally by a dedicated and supportive team of staff who will create an excellent studio atmosphere, buzzing with enthusiasm, energy and of course, ideas. We have a large studio/ performance space, a drama studio and a traditional classroom.
You will be given assignment briefs for the units being assessed. You are assessed through continuous assessment during sessions as well as presentations, performances and written work. Your progress is fed back to you with feedback sheets and in tutorials.
This course has an excellent record of students progressing through University and Drama Schools including East 15, Central School of Drama and Salford University . Students have been successful entering into employment within related areas, including writing and producing touring shows.
Career opportunities include theatre, radio, film, television, commercials, directing and producing, entertainments officer ,and arts administration.
Five GSCE grades A* to C or equivalent and an enthusiasm for the performing arts.
