Who is this course for?

This course is aimed at students who wish to work in programming, systems support and website development.

Description

Modules covered include:
• Introduction to computer systems
• Using ICT
• Software design
• CISCO IT essentials
• Website development

Throughout this course you will develop Functional Skills.

There is an opportunity to participate in residentials - students have recently visited Euro Disney on an IT study experience where they attended seminars given by Disney personnel on subjects such as networking, electronic booking systems and control systems. The cost of trips do vary, the Disney trip cost approximately £140.

Teaching and Assessment

You will be taught in a variety of ways including computer-based projects, case studies, tutorials and classroom sessions. You will be assessed through a variety of assignments including practical and written tasks.

Career Opportunities

Further study onto the National Diploma in IT Practitioners - System Support or Software Development or National Diploma in Games Development offered here at Somerset College.

You may, however, decide you are ready to find employment perhaps in software development or systems support.

 

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade D to G, including at least one GCSE in Science, Mathematics or English or a GNVQ Foundation in Information and Communications Technology.
