The aim of this course is to help you find out which area of study is best suited to your interest in art and design.
A team of well-qualified, friendly staff with industrial experience will help and encourage you to experiment and explore using an exciting range of materials and techniques. The course will improve your creative and presentation skills whilst helping you to develop a strong portfolio of work and build your confidence.
You will be introduced to a wide range of creative techniques and processes by specialist staff in the following areas:
• Materials techniques and processes - through exploration, experimentation and a wide range of materials, you will learn how to apply these in creative and practical ways
• Ideas and concepts - you will learn how creative processes are used by artists and designers to develop ideas
• Drawing and painting - through the application of media and techniques you will develop your own confident styles
• Computers in arts and design - you will investigate a range of industry based software to create solutions to assignment based activities
• Designing and making
• Live projects with local companies and competitions
• Self management skills
Much of your practical work will take place in purpose built workshop environments such as 3D, photography, printmaking and ceramics.
Throughout the year you will have opportunities to go on various educational visits both in the UK and abroad. Last year included residential trips to London and Paris.
You will have a personal tutor who will guide and support you during your studies.
Practical and written assignments, continuous assessment and external moderation. Progress is monitored through tutorials and group meetings.
You could progress onto a Level 3 National Diploma in your chosen specialism, choose the Creatie and Media Advanced Diploma or seek employment.
4 GCSEs at grade E or above and a portfolio of work. We always like to interview everyone and you will be invited to bring examples of your work.
