This course is designed for those who wish to work in the Travel and Tourism Industry, e.g. as a resort representative, airline steward / stewardess or travel agent. It is also a stepping stone to a higher level travel / tourism course (National / Advanced National Diploma in Travel and Tourism).
The course is a mixture of practical and academic work and lasts for one year. You will spend time in the College's travel agency developing your travel knowledge and customer care skills. In classroom / IT Centre setting you will learn about the various activities within the travel industry and worldwide tourist destinations.
The following units are studied: Resort Reps, Worldwide Travel, Selling Skills, Workplace Communication, UK Travel, Preparing Promotional Materials, Retail Travel.
You will be assessed through assignments, on-line tests and through your performance in the travel agency.
Some of the teaching and learning takes place in the realistic working environment of the travel agency. You will be supervised by an assessor with travel industry experience. Additional classroom sessions will be arranged for the delivery of other subjects e.g. travel geography.
You may wish to gain employment in a Travel Agency, Airline / Airport, Tourist Attraction, as a Report Representative, or progress onto the National Diploma / Advanced National Diploma in Travel and Tourism.
There are no formal entry requirements to this level 2 course. School leavers would be expected to have a GCSE profile of 'D' grades and a reasonable standard of English. Mature students (over 18 years) are particularly welcome. There are no formal entry requirements but a reasonable standard of English is required. All students will be required to attend an interview and practical session in the Travel Agency.
