This course is an introduction to the world of performing arts. It is for those students who wish to improve their current GCSE qualifications to enable them to progress to the level 3 qualifications.
This is a 1 year full time level 2 programme that is equivalent to 4 GCSE grades A* - C. There are 4 core units and 3 specialist units including performing scripted plays.
You will study different aspects of performing arts enabling to develop new skills and confidence. The atmosphere is productive and friendly. You will receive support and encouragement throughout the course, leave with a valuable qualification and, most importantly, develop a belief in your own potential.
You will take part is a variety of performances as part of the Operating Theatre Company. These will take place in our Echo Theatre, local professional theatres and also outdoor public events. There are opportunities within the structure of the course to work with individual outside agencies and internal promotional campaigns, from role play to being made up for photo shoot.
You will have the opportunity to go on theatre trips to local, regional and west end theatres. These include plays, experimental theatre, dance and musicals. You will able to take part in workshops run by professionals.
The performing arts staff are all experts in their field of study and many have experience of this area at a professional level. With their support you will develop many new skills, which will include effective communication, creative problem-solving, group work and taking responsibility.
You will be given assignment briefs for the units being assessed. You are assessed through continuous assessment during sessions as well as presentations, performances and written work. Your progress is fed back to you with feedback sheets and in tutorials.
Most students progress onto the Extended National Diploma Performing Arts or find employment.
Four GCSEs at grade E or above. You will also be invited to an interview.
