This course will provide you with a sound understanding of vehicle technology and practices, supported by extensive practical work in a realistic working environment.
You will cover all aspects of vehicle servicing and body repair plus the following units:
• Vehicle practical work towards apprenticeship framework requirements
• Electrical and electronic principles
• Vehicle technology
• Vehicle science and mathematics
The work is based on practical activities that build into a portfolio of evidence, which will support entry onto an apprenticeship or further study. The programme is supported by an extensive tutorial package and enrichment activities.
Practical and theoretical content. With the assistance of your lecturers you will be expected to complete a personal portfolio made up of practical job cards, which will be assessed.
You are able to re-sit any of the modules as often as required. You will be made aware of your progress throughout the course with regular obtainable short-term targets.
Employment as a trainee motor vehicle technician in light or heavy vehicle repair and maintenance, a trainee vehicle body repairer and/or vehicle refinisher or a fast-fit technician.
Alternatively you could opt to progress onto our National Diploma in Motor Vehicle Repair and Technology, study for the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) qualifications or find work as an apprentice.
Entry is by application and interview at the College. Candidates should be at least 16 years of age, have a good standard of general eduaction to GCSE level with pass grades of D or above in English, Mathematics and Science or demonstrate to the College on interview that you can cope with the demands of the course.
