Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for junior managers and supervisors.

The Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management will enable both new and experienced first line managers to become more confident and effective in their roles by developing their management skills and knowledge.

Description

The Certificate is a flexible qualification with optional units in areas such as managing conflict and customer service so you can choose to focus on those areas that will enhance your chosen career path, or match the specific needs of your workplace

Candidates must complete four mandatory units and then select a combination of optional units to a total credit value of at least 20 to achieve the Certificate.

Mandatory units are;

  • Solving problems and making decisions
  • Understanding change in the workplace
  • Planning change in the workplace
  • Achieving objectives through time management

 

 

Optional units (you need to take units to a minimum credit value of 20 to achieve the Certificate):

  • Writing for business (credit value 1)
  • Managing creativity and innovation in the workplace (credit value 1)
  • Managing customer service (credit value 1)
  • Giving briefings and making presentations in the workplace (credit value 1)
  • Introduction to leadership (credit value 2)
  • Building the team (credit value 1)
  • Motivating to perform in the workplace (credit value 2)
  • Developing yourself and others (credit value 2)
  • Managing conflict in the workplace (credit value 1)
  • Recruiting, selecting and inducting new staff in the workplace (credit value 3)
  • Coaching and training your work team (credit value 2)
  • Providing quality to customers (credit value 2)
  • Planning to work efficiently (credit value 2)
  • Working with costs and budgets (credit value 1)
  • Understanding the communication process in the workplace (credit value 1)
  • Influencing others at work (credit value 1)
  • Understanding workplace information systems (credit value 1)
  • Marketing for managers (credit value 1)

It may be possible to take other optional units, but this will need to be discussed with the Business team.

 

Teaching and Assessment

Mandatory units are assessed through work-based assignment plus a Change Management report. Assessment for optional units is dependant on the options chosen, but may include; work-based assignments, reflective reviews, knowledge reviews, oral presentations, role play / scenarios, written reports.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but participants will normally be practising or aspiring first line managers with the opportunity to meet the assessment demands and have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme.

 

Costs

The Certificate costs £1025, there is an additional £105 ILM registration fee.
