Who is this course for?

The Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Level 5 Certificate in Management has been specifically designed to give practising or aspiring middle managers a solid foundation in their formal development in this role.

Description

The Award is a concise qualification designed to develop middle management skills and knowledge.  The mandatory unit examines organisational structurre and function, the roles and responsibilities of middle managers and the effect of communication and interpersonal skills on managerial performance.  The final element of the unit explores the evaluation of personal development opportunities.

The Award consists of one mandatory unit with a credit value of 4, and then learners will choose optional units with a minimum credit value of 6.

Mandatory unit;

  • Understanding the management role

 

 Optional units (you need to take units to a minimum credit value of 6 to achieve the Award):

  • Developing the reflective manager (credit value 4)
  • Managing improvement (credit value 3)
  • Making a financial case (credit value 3)
  • Managing individual development (credit value 4)
  • Managing stress and conflict in the organisation (credit value 3)
  • Understanding organisational culture and ethics (credit value 3)
  • Managing for efficiency and effectiveness (credit value 4)
  • Managing projects in the organisation (credit value 4)
  • Conducting work analysis (credit value 2)
  • Making professional presentations (credit value 2)
  • Leading teams (credit value 4)

It may be possible to take other optional units, but this will need to be discussed with the Business team. 

Teaching and Assessment

Mandatory unit is assessed through work-based assignment. Assessment for optional units is dependant on the options chosen, but may include; work-based assignments, reflective reviews, written reports.

Career Opportunities

From the Award, learners can progress onto the ILM Level 5 Certificate in Management

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but participants will normally be practising or aspiring middle managers with the opportunity to meet the assessment demands and have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme.

Costs

The Award costs £650, there is an additional £75 ILM registration fee.
