A Higher Diploma is equivalent in size and value to 7 GCSEs at grades A* to C. This Diploma is designed to enable learners to develop their own knowledge and skills relating to IT.
The Principal Learning comprises 7 units of study:
You will learn the basics of how to manage projects, for example planning and scheduling all the tasks involved (using a tool called Critical Path Analysis). You could write project plans and learn about GANTT charts (another tool to help you resource and manage project tasks). You will learn how to make prototypes and test your products. You will gain the technical knowledge and skills to design and develop your own multimedia product for a specific purpose.
The activities you will take part in have been designed to develop your personal learning and thinking skills (PLTS) and the application of the Functional Skills of Maths, English and IT at Level 2. You will also undertake a personal project.
The whole Diploma package will also include another Level 2 course that can be studied alongside the Diploma.
At least 10 days work experience forms an essential part of this course.
Learning will be brought to life through the internet, multimedia solutions, software games and exploring how technology is applied in different areas of work and life. A key aspect throughout the Diploma is the need to plan your actions and set personal targets for achievement.
Each unit of the Higher Diploma is assessed through assignments which reflect the aim of each unit. One unit will be externally assessed.
After successful completion of the Information Technology Higher Diploma there are a number of possible progression routes. You will be suitably qualified to take up Level 3 qualifications such as the Information Technology Advanced Diploma, another Level 3 qualification or an Advanced Apprenticeship in a related.
5 GCSEs at grade D or above, or another Level 1 qualification.
