Who is this course for?

This qualification will provide learners with the skills and knowledge necessary to plan, deliver and evaluate safe and effective fitness instruction via a gym environment. Learners successfully completing this qualification will be able to gain access to the Register of Exercise professionals (REPS) at Level 2.

Description

The qualification will equip individuals with knowledge, understanding and skills for success in employment in the fitness industry. It will promote good practice in fitness instructing by working to a common standard which is nationally recognised.

Units covered:

1. Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise

2. Know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity

3. Health, Safety and Welfare in a Fitness Environment

4. Principles of Exercise, Fitness and health

5. Planning gym- based exercise

6. Instructing gym-based exercise

Teaching and Assessment

There are no external examinations. Subjects are assessed by a combination of scenario based tasks, internal tests, practical assessments, observations within the gym environment, timed tasks, and individual study of which all evidence will be collated into a portfolio for final assessment.

Career Opportunities

On successful completion of this programme you will be able to have the opportunity to progress onto the Level 3 NCFE Certificate in Personal Training or a Level 3 Diploma in Sport. Alternatively you can seek employment as a Fitness Instructor or Personal Trainer in the leisure industry.

Students can also enrol on this course as an addition to their main full-time study e.g. Extended Diploma in Sport or HNC in Sport (please see individual course leaflet).

Learners will have the opportunity to gain additional awards including First Aid (these will pose an additional cost).

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. Students should be interested in the fitness industry or already working in its environment and be prepared for practical as well as theoretical elements. All applicants will be invited for interview.
