Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for:

  • qualified and competent plumbing and heating engineers looking to gain the knowledge and skills to install and maintain rainwater harvesting and greywater re-use systems
  • learners who want to progress in the building services sector to work with environmental technologies

Description

These qualifications equip existing workers with the skills to install and maintain rainwater harvesting and greywater re-use systems, capable of collecting and storing rainwater and greywater to supplement mains supplies and drastically reduce bills. The qualifications will help learners to provide best advice to customers on the use of water harvesting and re-use systems and allow existing plumbing and heating engineers to further their career through professional development.

Teaching and Assessment

The training course will take the learner through the following:

  • Know the requirements to install, commission and handover rainwater harvesting and greywater re-use systems, including:
    • Health and safety
    • Regulations and standards
    • Types and layouts
    • Components of the systems and their purpose, selection and sizing
    • Performance of the systems
    • Plan and prepare for the installation of an active rainwater harvesting and greywater re-use systems
    • Install rainwater harvesting and greywater re-use systems components
    • Test and commission an active rainwater harvesting and greywater re-use systems
    • Handover an active rainwater harvesting and greywater re-use systems

Assessment is by a computer based examination that will take place during the course and by practical assessment under simulated conditions that will also take place during the course.

Career Opportunities

This course is for fully qualified plumbing or heating engineers. It can lead to progression onto further qualifications relating to these roles.

Success in this qualification can be used to exempt the learner from the same units on the qualification ‘Installation and Maintenance of Water Harvesting and Re-use systems’. The learner would simply have to undertake the maintenance units to gain this additional qualification.

Entry Requirements

The learner must undertake the unit ‘Understand the fundamental principles and requirements of environmental technology systems’ either as part of this overall course or have already gained this unit through prior learning, along with the following:

  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence; or
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Domestic Installation) or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence; or
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating Ventilating (Industrial and Commercial Installation) or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence; or
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Oil Fired Technical Services or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence; or
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Gas Installation and Maintenance or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence.

 

In addition, if not included in the above, current certification in relation to:

  • Water Regulations/Water Byelaws (WRAS or equivalent)
