This course is ideal for students who have an interest in web design, film, CD-Roms, digital photography and moving image. You will enjoy working with computers, problem solving, drawing, photography and graphic design and want to pursue a career in multi-media.
You will work with a variety of media and materials and use specialist
technical equipment in our resource centres to get the very best out
of your ideas. The team are experts in their field and, alongside your
personal tutor, they will purposefully support and guide you through
your first year. You will develop your chosen specialism, with projects
drawn from a broad spectrum of disciplines including computer
applications, typography, photography/film, web/interactive
design, visual and interactive communication, design methods and
principles. You will also be supported in portfolio preparation and
professional practice for progression on to a relevant university
course or employment.
The studio team will support you both academically and pastorally
while creating an excellent studio atmosphere full of energy and,
of course, ideas, which are the essence of interactive design.
Successful completion of this Diploma course will enable you
to automatically progress on to the University of Arts validated
Foundation in Art and Design as a part of your fast track programme
(please note, you will need both courses to progress as they form
part of a two year developmental pathway for your benefit). After
this, students can consider Higher Education on one of the various
degree pathways either here at Somerset College or other institutions,
before following a career in the creative industries. The choice of
degree study after this course is broad and could include multimedia
publishing, website design, TV, video and film.
