This course is ideal for those looking for a career in the automotive industry and it is specifically designed to meet the requirements of the motor industry and allied industries such as motorsport.
With strong links in industry, work experience in a range of environments will help you to build on your skills.

• Light vehicle transmissions systems
• Light vehicle steering, braking and suspension
• Vehicle electronic ancillary and information systems
The National Diploma provides practical training and allows you to undertake an IMI (Institute of the Motor Industry) Technical Award in Air Conditioning.
You will also learn to:
• Diagnose simple system faults
• Rectify simple faults
• Health and safety
• Remove and replace components
• Carry out complex system diagnostics
• Carry out complex system repairs
You will be taught these subjects through practical and theory workshops. Assessment will be through assignments and NVQ evaluation of practical tasks.
Further study onto a Foundation Degree in Engineering (Automotive) here at Somerset College or find employment within the automotive or another engineering related industry, for example as a Motor Vehicle Technician, trainee Service Engineer in the vehicle repair industry or a Vehicle Inspector/Examiner.
4 GCSEs at grade A* to C, including English, Mathematics and Science. Alternatively a First Diploma or Certificate will also be considered.
