This is an exciting, challenging and rewarding course that offers you the opportunity to explore your potential and develop skills that will be important to your future work. Using theatre, dance and stagecraft you will become directly involved in all aspects of production.
You will be given the chance to meet and work with people from the performing arts industry and gain a real insight into the opportunities available in one of the biggest industries in Europe.
In the first year you will gain a practical understanding of many areas including acting, movement, devising, mask work, physical theatre, variety and the business aspect of the performing arts. In the second year you will become a member of the professionally run Operating Theatre Company and explore in depth the skills involved in areas such as script writing, directing, film and TV acting and contemporary theatre.
In an average year a performing arts student will be involved in the production of approximately 30 performances plus the making of a number of short films. You will be supported both academically and pastorally by a dedicated and supportive team of staff who will create an excellent studio atmosphere, buzzing with enthusiasm, energy and of course, ideas.
You will have the opportunity to visit European countries as part of this course. The course has strong links with many performance venues and organisations.
Practical and written assignments, continuous assessment and external moderation. Your progress is monitored by tutorials and seminars.
This course has an excellent record of students entering into employment within related areas and progression onto university courses.
Career opportunities include theatre, radio, film, television, commercials, stage management, technical lighting, directing and producing, entertainments officer (holiday centre or cruise ships) and arts administration.
Four GSCE grades A* to C or equivalent and an enthusiasm for the performing arts.
