Description

This course is designed to provide studies in the fields of computing which are directly relevant to the changing needs of employees and employers. It also provides a basis for progression to university level study. You will develop an essential range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes.

You will study seven specialist units including:
• IT project
• Maintaining computer systems
• IT technical support
• Network management
• Networking systems security
• IT essentials - Cisco
• IT troubleshooting and repair
• Networking essentials - Cisco IT essentials 2

During the course you will have the chance to attend technology workshop sessions and to meet and ask questions of professionals working in IT, which will help raise your awareness of how you can apply your skills in industry.  throughout this course you will develop both Functional and Employability Skills.

Teaching and Assessment

A variety of teaching and learning methods will be used including computer-based projects, case studies, tutorials and classroom sessions. Assignments will be used for assessment purposes.

Career & Progression Opportunities

You could progress on to a Foundation or Honours Degree course at Somerset College in Computing and Internet Technologies.  Or you could find employment in ICT Support and Networking. 

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade C or above, including Mathematics or a merit on the Level 2 Diploma in IT or an intermediate GNVQ in ICT.
