Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for you if you are in employment in a health and social care role on a full-time, part-time or voluntary basis.

Description

This qualification replaces the NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (Adults)

This qualification is to guide and assess the development of knowledge and skills relating to the health and social care workforce.  The qualification confirms competency in these areas for roles such as:

  • Care assistants, support workers, key workers in residential settings
  • Healthcare assistants / support workers in community and primary care environments
  • Healthcare assistants / support workers in acute health environments
  • Care assistants/support workers/key workers in domiciliary services
  • Care assistants/support workers/key workers in day services
  • Support workers in supported living projects
  • Community-based care assistants/ support workers/key workers, including those working in specialist areas e.g. dementia, learning disabilities
  • Personal assistants employed directly by the individual they support or their families
  • Emerging new types of workers and multidisciplinary health roles crossing traditional service barriers and delivery models.

You will need to achieve a minimum of 58 credits to gain the full award.  This includes mandatory units to the value of 28 credits.  The remaining 36 credits will be made up from optional units which, through discussion with your assessor and employer, will best suit your work setting.

Teaching and Assessment

The qualification will be gained through one-to-one assessment in your workplace using a range of methods including observation of normal work activities to confirm your competence.  Your understanding of the underpinning knowledge could be assessed in the form of questions, professional discussions or attended workshops.  You will be supported throughout your course by qualified assessors.

Entry Requirements

It is expected that you will be able to demonstrate competency at level 2 within the relevant care sector.
