Who is this course for?
The Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care (England) is specifically designed for learners wanting to work within adult social care in England working towards a lead adult qualification will enable learners to make a positive difference to someone’s life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional or intellectual challenges.
Learners will be expected to exercise judgement and take appropriate action to support individuals to maintain their independence, dignity and control. By providing leadership, guidance and direction at the frontline of care delivery learners will be instrumental in improving the health and wellbeing of those receiving care and support.
Lead adult care workers may work in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres or some clinical healthcare settings. As well as covering lead adult care workers this standard also covers lead personal assistants who can work at this senior level but they may only work directly for one individual who needs support and/or care services, usually within their own home.
This qualification allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in adult care in England. It covers a range of topics including the importance of having the right values and behaviours. To achieve the Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care (England) learners must achieve a minimum of 70 credits overall. At least 55 credits must be achieved at Level 4 or above.
A credit-based system QCF (Qualifications Credit Framework) is the new way of recognising skills and qualifications. It does this by awarding credit for units (small steps of learning) and enables learners to gain or add onto new or existing qualifications or can offer a work-based solution to specialised learning. Choose from over 40 modules at Levels 3 – 5 to build a bespoke individual learning route or add on additional modules to existing qualifications. QCF is a flexible way of recognising and rewarding skills and qualifications.
This competency–based qualification is designed to be assessed in the candidate’s workplace as they undertake their normal work role. The evidence must at all times reflect the policies and procedures of the workplace as informed by current legislation, the relevant codes of conduct and service standards for the sector.
The Diploma can be started flexibly at any time during the year with an expectation that it will be completed within 24 months of starting.
Attendance at College is not required as the qualification is delivered within the workplace. Current awarding body guidance is 7 – 10 hours independent study per week.
