    The food supply industry is the largest private sector employer in the UK providing work for over 3.8 million people. They constantly require managerial and technologically minded recruits to develop this fast evolving industry. This course aims to supply graduates with the knowledge, self-confidence and applied management skills required in the modern workplace.

  • Course Description

    This programme aims to provide students with a learning environment which builds on the platform of the College’s foundation degree and allows students to employ detailed knowledge and understanding of contemporary practices, issues and technologies to the management of business in the agrifood sector. Food supply industries are integrally involved in the course providing case studies, visit opportunities and seminars on food supply management topics.

     

    The two day full-time study structure will allow students to travel longer distances to travel with just one overnight stay. Part-time (one day) is also available. Both modes of study will enable students to continue in employment alongside study.

     

    Students will also be able to take advantage of major investment in agriculture and Higher Education at the Cannington Centre (Agricultural Innovation Centre and HE study centre opened 2015).

     

    Example modules include:

    The course is made up of modules that cover technical and managerial aspects of food supply and may include:

    • Food Safety & Food Quality Management
    • Food Supply Chain Management
    • Strategic & Human Resource Management
    • Contemporary Agricultural & Food Issues

     

    Theoretical teaching methods will mainly involve lectures, seminars and demonstrations.

  • Teaching and Assessment

    It will be delivered utilising the new farm/ food technology development within a research-based environment. Guest lectures and lndustry support will also figure strongly.

    You will learn via a combination of different practical and theoretical methods which will include industry-based investigations, guided self-study and visits. 

  • Progression Opportunities

    Successful completion of the Degree will provide you with the opportunity to progress to employment or further study in an agriculture/food related subject.

     

    This course will prepare you well for employment in the industry in positions such as a farm manager, rural surveyor, unit manager, farm contractor, senior herdsman or working within the management team of associated food industries. 

  • Entry Requirements

    Foundation Degree in Agricultural Management at Bridgwater & Taunton College or achieving this level in a relevant qualification elsewhere. 

  • Costs

    £7,500 per annum.
