  • Who is this course for?

    This Foundation Degree course aims to develop the skills and knowledge needed to become a highly qualified engineer in the Motorsport Industry. You will be prepared for employment in the industry through taught sessions, visits from professionals and a range of work placement opportunities. The course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to become a valued employee within either the automotive or motorsports industry.

  • Course Description

    Studying this course at University Centre Somerset will give you access to:

    Various modules must be studied over the two year course, examples of which include:

    • Composites and Materials Technology
    • CAD CAM and Data Acquisition & Analysis

    • Vehicle Dynamics & Performance Engineering

    At UCS we run our own Motorsport Race Team, this consists of higher education students studying Motorsport and competes regularly across the country at circuits including Silverstone and Brands Hatch.

    Students on this Foundation Degree course have an opportunity to work with the team at competitions. The race team consists of first and second year Foundation Degree Motorsport students and the rally team consists of Level 2 and 3 Motorsport students.

    Both teams have had much success while competing at circuits such as Silverstone, Castle Combe, Donington Park, Brands Hatch and Snetterton, as well as local rally events held at Bovington, Smeatharpe and Shepton Mallet.  Over recent years the teams have won numerous Championships, including:

    • 2014 BRSCC OSS Champions
    • 2016 BRSCC OSS Champions

    The team has a number of cars, some used for competition and others as dedicated learning tools.

  • Teaching and Assessment

    Assessment will be via a variety of methods including assignments, reports, portfolio, project, presentations, drawing work and practical skills assessments.

  • Progression Opportunities

    On successful completion of the course, you will have the opportunity to progress on to the BSc (Hons) Motorsport Technology at UCS or, you have the choice to continue your studies at a university of your choice.

  • Entry Requirements

    Typically entrants will possess:

    • A minimum of one pass at A Level or 6-unit Vocational A Level (in Maths, Physics or a closely related subject), plus a minimum of three passes at GCSE (grades A - C or 9 - 4) including Mathematics at grade B (5) or equivalent and English Language.

    Or

    • a National Certificate or Diploma or other full equivalent Level 3 qualification, in a discipline related to Engineering, including merits in the applied units, plus a minimum of three passes at GCSE (grades A - C or 9 - 4) including Mathematics at grade B (5) or equivalent and English Language.
