Somerset College is a leading provider of further and higher education in Somerset. Each year we enrol over 7,000 students on to our wide range of full and part-time courses. Our courses span further and higher education and include provision for young people, adults, apprentices and employees.
We emphasise in particular our role in delivering education and training to meet the needs of employers in our local and regional economy. Our vision is that every learner will excel and develop their talents and potential for employment, for independence and life and that Somerset College will be a catalyst for economic and social change in Taunton and Somerset.
We enjoy an excellent reputation across a full range of courses we offer and our students regularly achieve regional and national awards. The majority of our 600 staff work at the main campus on Wellington Road, Taunton.
The central administration is based here, together with our teaching and learning in arts, engineering, construction, health and social care, catering, management, business and IT, and hair and beauty. The campus has been completely restructured, and in addition offers a new Technology Centre, a Conference and Business Centre and Genesis, the only sustainability centre in the South West.
We believe that staff are our best resource and we make sure that everyone who works at the College receives a full induction and continuing support as they develop in their role. We encourage staff to update their skills and knowledge and many achieve qualifications with the support of the College.
The quality of life in Taunton is enhanced by the beautiful scenery, a rich cultural life, easy access to Devon and Somerset coastlines, good transport links and easy access to many major conurbations including London.

Are you the very special manager we seek for this uniquely challenging post here in the heart of the West Country?
Somerset College’s, Genesis Centre is the South West’s foremost sustainable construction resource and learning centre which is currently being enhanced to become a regional demonstration and training centre. The centre will be a working showcase of established and emerging environmental technologies providing training and business solutions for the domestic and commercial markets.
Students and companies throughout the region acknowledge the Genesis centre as being inspirational in learning about sustainability. The College offers a number of specialist courses from part-time to foundation degree – and your principal challenge will be to initiate lead and develop this area of training, working with our specialist advisors, technology businesses, construction and related sectors including professional services.
An academic background is not a pre-requisite, however it is essential that you have a qualification in a relevant discipline, practical knowledge and skills in the installation of renewable technologies and share our passion for the application of environmental technologies in all areas of sustainable construction. Your commercial track record and entrepreneurial awareness combined with the ability to build relationships at all levels will be essential.

Academic Registrar and Standards Manager
Salary: £45,000 per annum fixed term until 31 July 2011
Hours: 37 hours per week
The Academic Registrar and Standards Manager will be a key member of the senior management team with significant responsibility for the promotion and implementation of quality assurance standards across all aspects of the College provision .
The post holder will work in partnership with the Vice Principal during inspections and provide support in all aspects of strategic quality reporting and be familiar of LSC, Ofsted and Higher Education inspection and review processes.
You will have a successful innovative background in leading, managing and developing quality initiatives in line with Government agenda. You will support the Vice Principal in self assessment with forward-thinking characteristics to execute actions that lead to improvement.
