Somerset College will be holding a unique Festival of New Writing in the Brewhouse Studio for 6 nights in March. A staggering 27 new plays will be written, performed and directed by Performing Arts students. Times: 7.30pm Dates: 15th and 20th March.
Second year students on the National Diploma in Performing Arts have written the plays as part of their script writing unit on this course and they will be directing each other’s plays (a stipulation is that they cannot direct their own). First year students on the same course will perform in the plays.
Ged Stephenson, Head of Curriculum for Performing Arts said: ‘We have organised this festival for seven years running now, and this is the first time we will stage all the plays in one venue. Lots of significant people from the performing arts industry are planning to attend including actors, theatre company managers and arts agencies which will be great for the students who are showcasing their immense talents. This is also an amazing opportunity for first and second years to work together on a demanding piece of work which requires excellent team work.’
The patron of the Festival is the internationally renowned playwright Caryl Churchill.
