George Osbourne pays visit to Somerset College

One of the UK’s most senior politicians came to Somerset College on Friday 11 July, as part of a live broadcast for LBC radio.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osbourne, was in the south west on a speaking tour. He stopped off at the Genesis Conference Centre to participate in a one-off live broadcast from the state-of-the-art Earth Room.

Mr Osbourne discussed a range of issues to do with young people and education – making Somerset College the ideal venue for his interview.

Due to security considerations, the College was required to keep Mr Osbourne’s visit a secret until the day itself. Even so, staff and students were pleased to welcome him to the Wellington Road campus, which is the heart of Further and Higher Education in Somerset.
