Students from Somerset College’s Entry Programme course celebrated their end of year awards with a special cream tea held at the College’s Horticulture Centre in Taunton recently.
The 22 students gained a host of awards from City and Guilds to Personal Programme Awards as part of their Preparation for Working Life and Independence programme. This helps students with learning or behavioural difficulties to develop skills they need for work and independent living.
The celebrations included a tasty cream tea with parents and friends who the students showed around their mini allotments. Growing plants from seed is part of the course and all the horticulture work is done in partnership with Taunton Deane Borough Council’s Direct Labour Organisation (DLO).
“This course is good for independent life and our students learn many different skills from teamwork and communicating, to cooking and shopping,” said lecturer Alison Stokes.
