Jeremy Browne, MP Visits Somerset College
Jeremy Brown MP came to Somerset College on Monday 9th November to speak to the BTEC National Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development students for their Social Policy module.
As part of the social policy module learners study how the political system works. The College organised a ‘Question Time’ format, so that students could ask Jeremy about issues related to government policy and about the role of an MP. Several areas were discussed, such as anti – social behaviour orders, pre- school education provision and how it could be improved and the differences between private education and state education.
When asked about what he thought was one of his most worthwhile achievements as Taunton’s MP, Jeremy commented that it was probably keeping the Hydrographic Office at its present location in Taunton. The students demonstrated a keen interest in all the topics discussed and felt that it was a valuable session.
