Joe Hunter is top of the class and on target to make his dreams come true – something he would not have thought possible this time last year.
Joe, 17, who is dyslexic, has just passed his First Diploma Computing course at Somerset College, Taunton, with top marks equal to four A star GCSEs.
Last year his GCSE results meant he couldn’t even do the course he wanted. Now he’s ready to start his National Diploma in Creative Media Production (Games Development) this year and aiming beyond that to university.
“I knew what I wanted to go into, I’ve always loved computers and computer games,” said Joe.
“I’ve really enjoyed the First Diploma course and now I want to do games design and apply to university. I didn’t think this would even be a possibility with my dyslexia but the College helped me, and I’ve got a lot more confident.”
Tutors at Somerset College were delighted with Joe’s results. “He’s done very well, he made a real effort to get top grades and he’s achieved that,” said Sam Batten, Curriculum Area Manager for IT.
