Melissa celebrates top degree results
As the battle to find a university place through Clearing begins for thousands of students around the country, a Chard student is celebrating her top degree results – after originally giving up her A level studies and going to work as a health care assistant.
Melissa Whittaker, 25, of Coker Way, Chard, has just heard she gained a First in her BA (Hons) Business Administration degree, which she studied at Somerset College in Taunton while also working part-time.
“It was brilliant, I was really surprised. I was convinced I’d failed one of my exams so I worked even harder,” said Melissa, who initially started at the College on a Foundation Degree course.
“I didn’t think I would do well at first, without A levels or a BTEC like some people had, but I worked very hard to prove myself. The tutors were really supportive and we students all helped each other as much as we could,” she said.
Now Melissa is moving on to an internship with South Somerset District Council.
Potential students who have results but no university offer, can go through the Clearing process that matches universities without students to students without universities. Click here for more information or contact Somerset College’s special Clearing Hotline on 01823 366331.
The College, which is the largest provider of university courses in the county, is celebrating excellent results with over 260 students aged from 19 to 69 gaining Foundation and Undergraduate degrees.
