Michael Eavis to open student art exhibition

Glastonbury festival organiser Michael Eavis CBE is to open a special exhibition by fine art students from
Somerset College on May 21, 2010.

The Foundation Degree students from Taunton have organised an exciting exhibition at the medieval Tithe Barn in Pilton near Glastonbury, which was magnificently restored with support from Glastonbury Festival funds.

Michael Eavis will attend and open the private view on May 21 and the exhibition will open to the public from May 22 – 27.

“Artists used to just go into a garret and that was it. Now they need to also know how to communicate with the public and prepare for professional life, so the students exhibit at exciting venues around the country,” said Fine Art lecturer Stuart Rosamond.

The College has won sponsorship from Pardoes Solicitors and students have organised a fascinating display of unusual paintings, sculpture, printmaking, film, photography, textiles and installation.

The exhibition, called Ad Lucem, will kick off a series of end of year art and design exhibitions by Somerset College students with exhibition venues including The Brewhouse Gallery and the College itself.
