Somerset College HE Student of the Year Pictured at Division of Technology Awards Ceremony

Staff, students, friends and family recently celebrated the achievements of many students at an award ceremony held by Somerset College’s Division Technology.  Twenty eight higher and further education students received special awards which were sponsored by the UK Hydgrographic Office, Hickleys, Taunton Chamber of Commerce, Somerset County Council and Light Curve.

Natalie Gilbert (photographed) took the award for the Division of Technology Higher Education Student of the Year.  She studied on the Foundation Degree in Automotive Engineering and has gone on to the University of Plymouth to complete a BSC in Mechanical Design Technology.  She won the award for being an outstanding student.  Natalie is well known in the mini racing world as an accomplished race driver and also does lots of hill climbing.

Ross Hawkins, Qualifications Manager for Automotive Engineering said:  ‘ Natalie was consistently strong on the course despite huge unexpected personal difficulties which she had to overcome whilst studying.  I am certain she has a great career ahead of her.’
