Somerset College students are working on a creative project to design and plant up a plot of land owned by Taunton Deane Borough Council. The project was organised by Ali Stokes, College Lecturer. The students are on the Step Up Horticulture programme at the college and will be working on the walled garden next to BBC Somerset during the Spring and Summer.
It is hoped that the garden will be flourishing and ready for the public to enjoy in the Summer.
Jane Hicks, tutor on the course says:
‘This is an exciting opportunity for the students to be really hands on and creative and to work on a garden for the community to enjoy. It is great that they will be able to see their achievements at the end of the project.’
The students are photographed with tutors Jane Hicks and Ali Stokes before starting work on the garden.
Step Up is a course for learners who have few or no GSCE’s and is a personalised learning programme that allows progression to a Level 2 course, an apprenticeship or employment.
