Students exhibit with international designers

Graphic Design students at Somerset College will be displaying their collections alongside international students at the prestigious D&AD New Blood exhibition to be held in London next week.

The creative students who are studying Graphic Design degree courses at the College will show alongside designers from Sweden, Italy and the USA.

BA (Hons) Design: Graphic Design student Joanne Wood, said: ‘D&AD New Blood is such a hotbed of design talent, all emerging creative designers are at the show and it is so inspiring to see different designs and techniques.

‘The exhibition will give me a real opportunity to show what I can do, and make contacts in the industry , secure a job after I graduate, or organise work placements to gain further experience.’

Jonathan Doney, Somerset College’s Head of Graphic Design, said: ‘D&AD New Blood is an ideal opportunity for our highly talented designers to show the design world what they are capable of. This is the ideal place for many of them to find employment or secure work placements following their degree.’

Each year D&AD produce ‘The Book’ which is the D&AD Student Annual, a collection of the best student work of the year.

This year Somerset College student Jamie Saunderson is featured in the book alongside the top emerging creative talent in the world with his design for seed packets for Homebase featuring phrases including ‘Give Peas a Chance’ and ‘Hard to Beat’.

Jonathan said: ‘The Book is the bible of up and coming Graphic Design students. Large Graphic Design agencies, many London or internationally based, are able to cherry pick the latest talent coming into the industry.

‘To have a student listed in The Book shows that we must be doing something right. Our students leave the College as hot property, highly skilled and valued creative graphic designers.’

D&AD New Blood takes place from Monday 29 June until Wednesday 1 July at Olympia National Hall in London. For further information visit www.dandad.org.
