Your first home in Taunton
Situated in Staplehay, on the edge of Taunton, just over two and a half miles from the College, our Halls of Residence are a great place to live for both male and female students.
Set in tranquil parkland, there are 192 study bedrooms grouped into clusters of six or seven, each sharing a well-equipped kitchen/diner. Each bedroom is en-suite and furnished with a single bed, bedside table & lamp, wardrobe, desk, chair, curtains, bookcase, pin board and has broadband wireless facility for your laptop (PC or Mac).
Facilities on-site include a lively bar, communal lounge, sports hall, TV lounge, outdoor BBQ area and a 24-hour laundry. The Halls are a non-smoking environment.
A team of staff and student wardens ensure that the Halls are well maintained and provide a safe environment for you to live. A security company carries out patrols of the site. You are allowed visitors for up to 48 hours at a time.

Travelling between Halls and College
There is a bus stop directly outside the Halls of Residence, with buses running regularly throughout the day. It is a thirteen minute bus ride to College or a twenty minute cycle ride. There are cycle racks available at Halls and on campus. Alternatively a Slinky Bus can be booked (local community bus service £6) or taxis from Halls to the town centre start at £7 during the day and £10 at night.
Car Parking
A limited number of car parking spaces are available (47) at a charge of £100 for cars and £60 for motorcycles per academic year (2011/12 prices).
Room Rental charges
Room Rental charges are from £84 per week with some larger rooms available from approximately £96 to £106 (2011/12 prices).
This charge is based on a 40-week year and is inclusive of all bills (gas, electricity and water rates) and personal possessions insurance & internet access.
Full time HE students living in Halls of Residence are exempt from paying Council Tax.

When you have accepted an offer of a place at Somerset College and know you will need somewhere to live in Taunton, you can apply for a room at Canonsgrove Halls of Residence. Please complete the application form and return it to us by email or in the post. Email to accommodation@somerset.ac.uk or post to Accommodation Office, Somerset College, Wellington Road, Taunton TA1 5AX.

There are also a range of interesting tourist spots all within easy reach. Taunton has easy access to train, bus links and motorways to London, the Midlands and Wales. It is approximately one hour's drive from Bristol and Exeter airports.
