Fee Remission & Concessionary Fees

Eligibility (Home and European Union students only)

The categories of learners who are entitled to fee remission are (learners only need to be eligible under any single entitlement category):

  1. Learners under 19 at 31.8.08
  2. Learners studying their first full Level 2 qualification.
  3. 19-25* year old learners studying their first full Level 3 qualification.
  4. Those in receipt of the following benefits:
    • unemployed people in receipt of income-based Job Seeker?s Allowance;
    • those in receipt of a Council Tax Benefit;
    • those in receipt of Income Support;
    • those in receipt of Working Tax Credit with a household income of less than £15,050;
    • those in receipt of Pension Credits (Guarantee Credit only);
    • unemployed people in receipt of contribution-based Jobseeker?s Allowance;
    • the unwaged dependants (as defined by Jobcentre Plus) of those listed above;
  5. Offenders who are serving their sentence in the community;
  6. Those taking learning aims that are funded as Skills for Life, excluding English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL);
  7. Asylum seekers eligible for LSC FE funding according to LSC Learner Eligibility Guidance 2007/08 and in receipt of the equivalent of income-based benefit, and their dependants;
  8. Certain learners participating in LSC-funded projects where identified in the project specification.

Students classified as non-European resident are not eligible for concessionary fees.

Points to Note:
Living in the UK for three years does not, on its own, mean that a student will become eligible for ?home? fees. The level of fee charged depends on whether the student meets certain criteria. Different criteria can be applied depending on whether the student is studying a course at higher education level or further education level. Individual cases should be referred to threshold services.
