Degree level Music Production students had a busy final term

Attending a seminar at DubStudio in Bristol, our students learned about music mastering and vinyl-cutting from engineer Henry Bainbridge. Covering the five key stages of how a dub-plate is made, from mastering to cutting, they even had a chance to cut dub-plates of their own musical productions – a key part of their Audio Mastering & Manufacture unit of their course.

Henry Bainbridge brought to bear more than a decade of experience on the student’s learning, providing the perfect industry experience and insight so important in supplementing their practical and academic learning back at University Centre Somerset.

A further industry visit was made to Modern World Studios in Tetbury, Gloucestershire where students worked on a recording and production project with Bristol-based band Bridges.

Hailing from Bridgwater (and indeed two members formerly of Bridgwater & Taunton College), Bridges are a band on the rise having caught the eye of BBC Introducing, as well as playing Glastonbury Festival and touring the UK. Bridges provided the perfect opportunity for our current students to apply the two years of knowledge and skills developed during their course by recording with a successful band.
