University Centre Somerset student invited to work with world renowned expert
During the academic year our Media Make-up BA (Hons) students were visited by Shaune Harrison, a world renowned make-up artist who has worked on films such as Star Wars, The Mummy and Harry Potter to name a few.
Shaune launched the ‘Products by Design’ module for University Centre Somerset students where they were tasked with designing a Frankenstein inspired character. Shaune returned to see the students’ practical assessments and was impressed with BA (Hons) student Katie Gibson’s Frankenstein lady which included a wig, prosthetics and make-up. As a result he later commissioned Katie to create a wig to use for his make-up demonstration at IMATS (International Make-up Artist Trade Show) New York on the Kryolan Stand.
Impressed by the standard of Katie’s work Shaune asked her to assist with his demonstration for PS Composites at IMATS in London. Katie assisted Shaune with his take on the Frankenstein Monster on model Garth Maunders in front of the thousands of people attending the event, as well as other industry professionals from across the world. Katie worked on prosthetics and colouring to create the finished character.
Brodie Nichols, Lead Lecturer on the Media Make-up course at University Centre Somerset comments: “Katie’s dedication throughout the programme has been commendable. Her skills have gained her valuable work experience and won her the ‘Highest Achiever Award’ for Media Make-up BA (Hons) Top Up at our recent Creative Arts Show.”
Katie is hoping to use her work experience to gain employment in the prosthetics industry.
